I’m so proud of my girl! She went in the potty today for the first time.
(Any of you squeamish folks who don’t want details stop reading now.)
A few months ago she started to have some interest, and we bought a little potty seat for her. But, after sitting on it a few times, she seemed to lose any inclination to go in the potty.
This past week she started talking about it again. The other day (TMI?), she asked me to pantomime going to the potty over and over again pretending the couch was the potty. When we asked if she wanted to try to go on the potty she would politely decline.
But today she apparently saw her friend Logan’s potty when she went over to play. (I haven’t gotten any details from his mom, Heidi, yet.) When she woke up from her nap, she was talking about Logan’s potty so I asked her if she wanted to try.
We went upstairs (where the potty seat is) and she got up on the toilet. I grabbed her potty book and we read it a few times while she sat there. Then, I heard plop plop. Really? I thought getting them to poo was much harder than pee. I looked, and yep, Poop!
I called her dad to come down from his office upstairs and we loaded heaps of praise upon her! We were both so excited. Ellie didn’t seem to understand what we were so worked up about but was happy with all the hugs and kisses.
She said she still had to pee so Ellie and I sat and read for about 5 more minutes, then she went pee! Two for 2. I have an awesome kid.
The funny thing is that this took me completely by surprise so I’m not prepared for this in the slightest. I have no idea what the next steps are nor do I have any big-girl panties ready. Looks like I’ll need to do some research tonight.
Okay, getting back to the story. She wanted to sit there a while more to see if she could go again. I finally had to drag her off the toilet. In the book we were reading, after she peed, she declares “No more diapers!” and gets to wear big-girl pants. Hmmm. Not ready for that. So, after Ellie escaped and ran around the house a few times, I corralled her in the bathroom and got her diaper on. Whew.
I told her we would try again tonight and she seemed happy with that.
