Ellie continues to go to the Creative Dance Center once a week. We started going when Ellie was just a wee baby, and except for a short hiatus, have attended continually since that time.
I’ve tried to take pictures during class before, but taking pictures while participating is a bit tricky (and results in lots of blurry photos or cut-off heads). Thanks to my broken toe, Jeff has filled in for me on parent duty. It’s much easier to take photos from the sidelines.
Going to dance class is a highlight of Ellie’s week. She gets so excited whenever we talk about it, and it doesn’t hurt that Ellie adores Teacher Terry. I have to say I adore Teacher Terry too (she is never cutsie with the kids, and is extremely good at pacing and flow).
I love these classes because Ellie is learning about where she is in space (in front, under, in), different ways she can move (sharp, smooth, slow, twirly, freeze), cooperation and independence, and a few musical ideas as well (loud, fast, soft). Plus, it’s so much dang fun!
At the end of the class, the kids all sit on a white line. Then Teacher Terry goes along the line, thanking each kid for coming to class, comments on something they did very well that day, and gives them a stamp on each foot, each wrist, and belly. Ellie loves to show off her stamps to everyone she sees between dance class and her next bath when the stamps wash off.
