Ellie and I have been steppin’ out quite a bit this last week. A few times Jeff has been able to join us, when he hasn’t been working. Getting out and being out has become much easier and comfortable with practice.
My friend Shannon and I have been trying to go walking most days. Pushing a stroller sure makes it a bit more of a workout, especially on the hills. Ellie seems to like the walks, or maybe she just tolerates them. The truth is she usually sleeps the entire time. I bought a rain fly for the stroller yesterday so now we can still go out even when the weather is questionable.
The two of us had a great time at Golden Gardens park last week. The wind wasn’t blowing so it was relatively warm and we had a lovely time hanging out on a blanket contemplating the shape of the clouds. I’m rather amazed how many people initiate conversations with you when you have a baby. Folks are very warm and complimentary of our beautiful Ellie Wren and they can’t seem to help sharing stories of their own children or grandchildren in the process. I was a little taken aback by this at first, but now I’m enjoying it.
We are very lucky to have a wonderful zoo only about 10 minutes from our house. On Friday, Ellie and I met our friend Parie and her little boy, Sofian there for a few hours. The sun was shining and it was very warm, which meant the zoo was packed! Although she is a little young to enjoy the animals, Ellie seemed to get great delight watching all the people and sleeping in the stroller. Being outside with good friends on such a beautiful day was a treat.
Saturday, all three of us went to an 81st birthday party (Glenn 40 + Lynn 40 + Rex 1 = 81). Almost everyone there had a child with them so there was this swarm of little crawling babies on the floor which you had to navigate through to get to the food.
Monday morning, Ellie and I went to the first New Moms group at our church. There were 4 women and their babies along with a staff person and volunteer. The women were all very nice and I think it will be a good group. Since we also have our PEPS group on Mondays, that will be a busy day for us.
We’ve also gone to coffee shops, out to lunch with a girlfriend of mine, and are getting the hang of going shopping (a logistical challenge). Thankfully, Ellie is very patient with me and doesn’t seem to mind hanging out in noisy or crowded places.
